Patna: CCTV cameras installed in the capital Patna to keep an eye on traffic rule violators are continuously taking action. As soon as the rules are violated, the message of e-challan is sent to the mobile of the vehicle owner. Usually people pay the challan, but there was a scooter running on the city roads on which challan was issued again and again. The owner did not make any payment. The result was that the outstanding amount increased to ₹ 1,43,000. The matter came to light when the traffic policemen deployed at the Exhibition Road intersection spotted this scooter during an intensive vehicle checking operation.
How did he get caught by the police?
In fact, when the records were checked through the number plate of this scooter parked at the red signal at the Exhibition Road intersection, even the officials were surprised. Investigation revealed that the vehicle is of 2012 model. Its important documents have expired for a long time. According to the information received from the website of the Transport Department, the pollution certificate of the scooter has failed since 2021, while the insurance has not been updated since 2013. Despite this, the vehicle was running on the roads for years. Due to violation of rules, challans continued to be issued. The matter came to the notice of the authorities only when the total outstanding challan amount reached ₹1.43 lakh.
The number plate is also not of the prescribed standard
According to the information received from the traffic police, all the documents of the vehicle like insurance, pollution were found expired. The number plate was also old. It was not converted into a high-security registration plate. Besides, the driver was ignoring the rules and obstructing the traffic movement. Because of this, the scooter has been seized and sent to the traffic department for further action.
Scooty was about 14 years old
The interesting thing is that the current market price of this approximately 14 year old scooter is estimated to be less than ₹ 5000. It is difficult to find buyers for such vehicles even in the second-hand market. According to the information, its fitness will also end in 2027, which means that its legal presence on the roads will be limited only for a limited period of time.
Traffic police officials have appealed to the people to follow the rules, pay the challan on time and keep all the vehicle documents updated. Failure to do so may result in heavy fine, vehicle confiscation and legal action.
