New Delhi. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), batsmen often dominate the bowlers. Rain of sixes and fours was also seen in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup. When the score increases rapidly, some bowlers also create unwanted records. One such record is that of conceding the most runs in one over. Surprisingly, two bowlers share this infamous record, both of them have given 37 runs in an over. What is even more surprising is that one of these bowlers has also won the Purple Cap twice.
Two bowlers, one record
Prashant Parameswaran and Harshal Patel hold the record of conceding the most 37 runs in an over in IPL history. Such an over can change the course of the match within a few seconds. The batsman who scored one run in this is none other than Ravindra Jadeja.
Prashant Parameswaran – IPL 2011
In the 2011 match between RCB and Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Chris Gayle wreaked havoc on Parameswaran’s bowling. Gayle scored a total of 37 runs in seven ball overs (4 sixes, 3 fours and 1 no ball). This over became one of the most expensive overs of IPL.
Harshal Patel – IPL 2021
Death overs specialist and two-time Purple Cap winner Harshal Patel also had to face a bad over. In the RCB and CSK match in 2021, Ravindra Jadeja scored 6, 6, 6, 6, 2, 6, 4 runs in one over of Harshal Patel, which also included a no ball. In this way 37 runs were scored in one over.
List of expensive overs of IPL
Daniel Sams: Pat Cummins gave away 35 runs in one over (KKR vs MI, IPL 2022)
Parvinder Awana: Suresh Raina scored 33 runs in one over (IPL 2014)
Ravi Bopara: Manoj Tiwary and Chris Gayle scored 33 runs in one over (IPL 2010)
Looking at these records shows how ruthless T20 cricket is. In this format, even the best bowlers sometimes become victims of tremendous attacks by the batsmen.
