
West Bengal Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari said in the Assembly on Friday that his government does not have official information about any post-poll violence. He said that these allegations made by the opposition party TMC will first be properly investigated and verified, only then any action will be taken. During the new session of the Assembly, opposition leader Sobhandev Chattopadhyay had raised the issue of post-poll violence in the state. Chattopadhyay alleged that people have been forced to leave their homes due to violence in many parts of the state. He demanded in the House that the government should take a strict stance on these incidents.
Administration will ensure return of displaced people
Responding to the allegations of the TMC MLA, Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari said, ‘We are not aware of any such incident. If any person is displaced, the police and administration will ensure that they return to their homes safely. The Chief Minister also said that no culprit involved in the violence would be spared and the law would take its course.
Rathindra Bose elected unopposed as Assembly Speaker
During the House proceedings, BJP MLA Rathindra Bose was elected unopposed as the Speaker of the West Bengal Assembly. He is the first MLA from North Bengal to hold this prestigious post. After the election of the Speaker, the Chief Minister announced that from now on the proceedings of the Assembly will be telecast live, so that the public can see what is happening inside the House.
Opposition will get 50% time in the House
The Chief Minister talked about the need for a strong and constructive opposition in democracy. He announced that the speaking time in the House will be shared in the ratio of 50-50 between the ruling party and the opposition. The official said, ‘The Assembly constitutionally belongs to the opposition. We do not want any MLA to be suspended. We want the decorum and language of the House to remain within democratic limits.
Heated dispute between BJP and TMC
Tension escalated in the House when BJP MLAs raised ‘chor-chor’ slogans, prompting a brief walkout by TMC members in protest. BJP MLA Tapas Roy said that now the House is free from fear, while ISF MLA Naushad Siddiqui, while reliving old memories, said that last time the post-poll violence had created fear among the people.
